Is Your Business SB-553 Compliant Yet?

Why You Need SB-553 OSHA Workplace Violence Prevention Training

As of July 1, 2024, California employers are now required to implement an Active Threat Response Plan and Employee Training Modules that meet the new Workplace Violence Law requirements, SB-553/California Labor Code Section 6401.9. It is important to know that there is no grace period for non-compliance with SB-553, and fines range from $18,000 to $25,000 per violation. If you have not taken steps to protect your business and employees by planning and training for this new law, the time is now to take action, and Talon Companies is here to assist you.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE COMPLIANT

To be effective, your Active Threat Response Plan should be developed around pre-incident planning and a security risk vulnerability assessment for your entire organization. The Physical Threat Assessment should include security measures to limit access and egress controls to potential perpetrators, identify escape routes, provide instant notification that a threat is in progress, and notify first responders.

A SOLID PLAN WITH HANDS-ON TRAINING

Talon’s custom Active Threat Response Plan for your business is developed around Department of Homeland Security protocols initiating run, hide, and fight directives in the event of an attack. Employees should know escape and exit routes to take as a first response to run. Secondly, if exits are sealed, rooms or locations should be identified as places to hide and lock doors. As a last resort, if running or hiding is not an option, employees should be trained to communicate as a team and mobilize to attack the perpetrator if possible.

ONGOING COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT

In addition, your administrative staff needs to be trained on the legal aspects of SB-553, including how to report workplace violence incidents properly, keep plans current, and keep employee training up-to-date, including new implementations and updates to ongoing changes to the laws. Talon’s Active Threat Response Plan and Employee Training Modules cover all these things and more.

Your Best Defense Against Targeted Workplace Violence
is Having an Even Stronger Offense

If you are ever faced with extreme physical violence in your workplace,
would you rather have your staff:

Equipped with hands-on training by an expert team of Former Secret Service, Former Military Intelligence, and a Clinical Forensic Psychologist?

OR

Lost and unprepared, with a
vague memory of a multiple-choice test
that barely met the minimum for
governmental compliance?

Extreme physical violence in the workplace can easily escalate to a life-or-death proposition.

These attacks are physical, and they happen in real-time. So shouldn’t the training to defend against them be as well?

“People respond to a traumatic event in the way they are trained” — Ron Williams, CEO – Talon Companies
